The IndabaX is a scaled-down version of the Deep Learning Indaba, an annual gathering of the African
machine learning community that was initiated in 2017 in South Africa. This locally-organized event
aims to foster the advancement of knowledge and skills in machine learning and artificial
intelligence within individual countries across Africa. The significance of the Indaba X conference
has been widely acknowledged by Africans as a pivotal platform for discussions on deep learning,
machine learning, and artificial intelligence in general, facilitating scientific and technological
collaboration throughout the African continent.
IndabaX Nigeria serves as a representative body for all AI communities in Nigeria, primarily
comprising members from micro AI communities such as Data Science Nigeria (DSN), AISaturdays (Lagos
& Ibadan), AI School Porthacourt, and academia. The rationale behind this initiative is to establish
IndabaX Nigeria as the central meeting point for all AI endeavors in Nigeria, while leveraging the
established practices of the global Indaba. By doing so, it will provide a comprehensive platform
for accessing global knowledge and aligning local efforts with the Pan African developmental agenda
on a large scale.
Given Nigeria's increasing prominence as one of the fastest-growing technology communities in the
world, it is crucial to establish an inclusive national platform that unifies the disparate AI
efforts across the country. The integrated conclave of IndabaX Nigeria will serve as an umbrella
organization with a broader Pan African impact, enabling the utilization of global best practices
and knowledge to drive inclusive impact within our country. Consequently, IndabaX Nigeria will bring
together academic institutions, industry practitioners, and the burgeoning developer community to
form a robust tripartite workstream focusing on various AI use cases.
Moreover, the adoption of best practices, methodologies, and insights gleaned from the main Indaba
event will expedite local practices, enhance adoption rates, and establish meaningful connections
for research collaboration, sharing of best practices, and joint initiatives across the continent.
